In keeping with the "job-related" restrictions on this forum, I respectfully submit this website http://www.lizardpoint.com/fun/geoquiz/ for those of you who may teach geography in conjunction with English.
In the meanwhile, since I did so absymally on many of the quizzes, I wonder what scores all you world travellers out there might get? Please state geographic areas and scores out of how many, if you choose to post?
Man, I tanked on the US, and Africa. Did ok on ME and SA, barely adequately on Asia. Need to go back to the books. Or, travel more? But, travel by airplane to me at least gives little sense of geography. Get into your seat, get out of your seat. Wham, bam, new country, could be wherever. Anyway, try the quiz, see if it shows you anything useful for you (or, of course, in this job-related forum, your own awareness of geography for the use of your beloved students).

Well, here's how I did.
91 out of 162 on Africa.
78 out of 87 on Asia (where is Brunei?)
19 out of 24 on Australia
39 out of 39 on Canada (I should hope so!)
skipped the Caribbean
39 out of 42 on Central America
skipped China
95 out of 111 on Europe
81 out of 87 on the Middle East
3 out of 96 on Oceania (yikes)
38 out of 39 on South America
133 out of 150 on USA
33 out of 33 on the World
I'd say I'm not doing too bad!

Guy, you're not supposed to take the quiz with an atlas. |

It's that little speck about half the size of your cursor above New Brunswick. |

Gordon, I hope you'll remember that PEI is the cradle of Canadian confederation, unless you are some kind of Preston Manning acolyte. For tv addicts, it's the home of Anne of Green Gables.
Geography has always been my forte. |

I was in PEI about 7 years ago. Nice place, took about 45 mins to drive from end to the other. Saw the outside of Anne's house, but didn't want to battle the Japanese tour groups.... still don't and they are everywhere, can't get away from them. |

I haven't yet been out East...missing PEI, NFLD, New B, and NS from my travel log. One day...
Japanese tourists have a fascination with Banff as well. I remember crawling up from a night in a tent on the Bow river to the camera flashes of several very well-dressed Japanese tourists. Somewhere, I'm in some Japanese person's photo album with elk-spit and a week-old beard on my mug.

Asia 71/87 (Where IS Brunei? Also, Cambodia Vietnam and Thailand are awfully close together! Hard to click on accurately I did surprisingly well on the 'stans though- actually got a few of them)
Canada 39/39 (WHew! my 7th grade teacher would be glad to hear it)
Europe 64/111 (Obviously I need to spend more time there! I was especially bad a identifying former soviet countries- When I was in school, it was always shown as one red block)
I wouldn't feel comfortable even attempting the other ones. What a fun site! |

I'm not sure if my 10+ years as an aircraft dispatcher helped...
USA 147/150
Africa 101/162 (Before becoming a dispatcher, I thought Africa was a country!!)
Asia 72/87
Aus 24/24
Can 34/39
Carib 28/66
C. Am 40/42
Eur 101/111
Mid E. 81/87
S. Am 37/39
World 33/33
I gave up on China and Oceania. I should've thrown in the towel on the Caribbean, too. Good stuff for a late-night time killer. |

Where's Brunei?
It's the small speck of green on the Island of Borneo next to the part of Malaysia [pink] that is also located there, non-penisular Malaysia? |

Always get a window seat as it is fascinating what you can see at certain times of a flight. Terrain, land use and settlement patterns, waterways, pollution, etc. etc. Even going over the great circle route from London to Vancouver at night was interesting (at times!). A simple flight from London to France can show even more contrasts. |
