Hi,

I hope someone can help me out here...

I've pretty much been offered a job, and a work visa, by a contact I have at a school in Santa Marta. I realise that work visas are very handy in Colombia, but to be honest spending a year, or even 6 months, in Santa Marta doesn't really appeal to me. I'm looking for jobs in one of the larger, central cities; Bogota, Medellin, Cali etc. I was wondering if work visas tie you down to one specific school for a year or whether they are useable anywhere within the country. I could handle a month or two in Santa Marta I think before i'd be itching to go somewhere a bit 'busier'.

Is it quite common for people to move to different schools using the same work visa? I suspect not, but I just thought i'd check as having a work visa would undoubtedly make life a lot easier over there.

Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

Ewan.

I can't say anout right now, but 5 years ago in order to get a work visa in Colombia the school had to "guarantee" your safety, and you were not able to change schools.

Consider this: Simn Bolvar died a miserable death in a borrowed shirt in Santa Marta in 1830.

That second fact would give ME pause. You may be more intrepid than the Moonraven....

Hi Ewan
a working visa only allows you to work in one specific place. If you want to change schools/jobs you will have to change your work visa. If you have a work visa you can work 8 bhours for another emloyer without changing your work visa. But I could be wrong the laws change all the time.
