|
|
Hi
Does anyone have any info on the credibility of a College Diploma? In Australia a Diploma is only a step down from a degree and still takes 2-3 years to complete full-time because it's tertiary study. So is a Degree the be all and end all? Or can my diploma and TESOL certificate provide me with the adequate qualifications to teach in Thailand? Any advice would be greatly appreciated |

You'll have no problems finding a good TEFL position with your College Diploma & TESOL cert.
When you market yourself in your CV or resume, or in discussions with potential employers -
don't even mention the Diploma vs. Degree thing.
Trust me.
Just highlite your qualifications; the name of your College, field of study, Diploma in _______, date of graduation -
and then do the exact same thing for your TESOL cert,
topped off with the best colour photo of yourself you can possibly find -
especially if you're planning to send out some apps over the web. |

I'd go along with that for sure. I spent a couple of years teaching in Thailand and at my last place down south the DOS had no educational qualifications of any description. You should be able to get something especially if you go over there. For a work permit they do indeed stipulate a degree and we had to provide proof of it as well but with the demand for teachers being what it is I doubt very much if anyone will be that bothered in researching the difference between a degree and a diploma, especially as you have a TEFL.
Go for it and best of luck.

As mentioned on a previous thread:
I know people (for example LDMA from Ajarn.com) who don't have a degree but have a work permit (FYI there is NO such thing as a work Visa.....it's generally a Non-imm B (or O) with a work permit on top that acts to extend it!).
Here's a link to tell you how it's possible!

As you can see a fair few of us know people that have done it. For sure it's not easy, but with your employers assistance it's definitely doable! |
