Their ad on Ohayo Sensei sounds pretty good. Anyone heard of them? |

Here it is. Looks like a pretty generic ad, with a very cheap apartment. You don't see the proofreading and coaching often in such a thing, though. Better get clarification on what needs proofreading and how often.
Full-time, 25 hours/week teaching, 5 hours/week administrative.
250,000yen/month. Teach adult conversation classes, some children's
classes, proofreading and coaching for speech contest. Position
located in Hakodate, Hokkaido. University degree required.
Sponsorship available. Accommodation: "35,000yen/month, no key or
deposit money, all furnished, bedding, washing machine, kitchen &
implements included in furnished apartment." Paid holidays. One- or
two-year renewable contract. Position begins in September 1, 2005.
Apply by e-mail or mail with CV/resume, recent photo, transcripts and
two letters of recommendation |

I know this school. It's pretty small (maybe 2 foreign teachers). Some of my friends have worked there. Standard eikawa gig with a lot of kids classes i think and largish (8-12) classes for adults. One teacher (a Canadian) had to teach French even though her French was pretty poor-she wasn't too happy aboout it I seem to recall.
Having said that the people who worked there had worked at JET and NOVA and preferred Daibubdo.......................
Go for it. It's probably bettter than NOVA at least. |

Thanks, everyone!
Luckily I can't be made to teach anything other than English. My second-strongest language is Mandarin, and if anyone tried to make me teach Mandarin, I'd laugh my butt off.
Time to give people the heads-up on letters-of-rec, I guess. |

Many years ago I was an exchange student in Hakodate and my Japanese host famiy went to that school. I also knew the English teacher. He was very pleased with his working conditions. And my host parents enjoyed being students there and said they were always pleased with the English teacher. So, at that time, it seems like they did a pretty good screening of candidates and the turnover rate was low. |
