Greetings to everyone on this forum... we (my husband and I) have been reading and not posted yet.
We will be traveling down in July with our 15 year old son and plan to be there for about 10 mths or more. My husband who is a teacher here, will be teaching English at some point- but fortunately we are not relying on this as our only income- I understand the pay can be low for teachers. We plan to travel about some at first, take Spanish classes and learn about the culture.

I appreciate any help with these questions about daily life in Mexico...some of these may seem quite silly to those living there, but I have only been to resorts in Mexico, which is almost like the US. This time I want to live in smaller towns and get a feel for the "real life" in Mexico.

Can you find rentals furnished rentals for short term- like one month in most areas?

What things do you find to be expensive in Mexico?

Are VCRs still widely in use. Can you rent movies, and if you do, are they VHS or DVDs?

Are microwave ovens found in most places? How much do they cost there-to buy a small one?

Thanks so much....I'm sure I will have more questions as we go.

Hasta Luego, Dana

Rentals of furnished places by the month: Only in areas with a lot of tourism, and they are expensive.

Anything imported costs 2 to 3 times what it does in its country of origin. And almost anything electronic is much cheaper in the US.

VCRs are still around. You can rent tapes and DVDs.

A small microwave oven will run between 1000 and 1500 pesos--90 to 135 dollars.
