Hello members, I want to work in Gualdalajara Jalisco Mexico teaching English and I came across a site saying that they will guarantee you a position in Mexico teaching English. The price for their services is $300 US. Is this real or a scam? Below is a link to their website.

I would appreciate any feedback especially if you have any personal experience with this placement company. Thank you. |

The thing you have to know is that any fool can just come to Mexico and get a job "teaching English". (and many do) But that doesn't mean the job will pay enough to live on or be a job that a person would want for any length of time. I am not meaning to insult anyone here, just something I've noticed.
So to say whether it's a scam or not........ I don't know.
But here are some things to ask them. Do they guarantee what kind of job they will get you? Are there any kinds of salary guarantees or any mention of guaranteed teaching hours?
Will they help at all with accomodations?
Are there any persons who have successfully used their service who would care to comment on their experience?

the fee looks to be $975, not $300 - seems to be a pretty serious investment....
I'd be curious to hear from anyone who has tried their services - was it worth it? |

I agree with "some waygug-in". And for $975 you could easily rent a place for a month or two and bum around for awhile, feeling out the job market. Thing is most jobs don't pay enough to make them worth it. See what kinds of places this placement outfit will set you up with. If it is one of the big chain, low-paying places that you could easily go apply at yourself, then I don't think its worth it.
If you have any teaching experience, I would definietly go with a major university or expensive private school, since they seem to pay the most. Tec de Monterrey is probably the best, though I don't know the Guadalajara job market. I am sure there are lots of Universities that pay a decent enough salary. |

If you have been reading the forum for awhile you would have seen a previous and similar thread. I know this company, which has been around a long time, and I can tell you it is not a "scam". They do what they say they will do. In a previous thread you will see that one of the destination reps posted some further information. I am sure he won't mind you contacting him for further information.
Many teachers come to Mexico with not a lot of money in their jeans, therefore a destination rep to meet and assist you, a job and an inexpensive apartment all lined up near your school has to be a good thing. It doesn't take long to blow through a thousand dollars in Mexico these days, especially in a place like Guadalajara, and then if you discover you can't secure the job(s) you need immediately for any number of reasons, you could be in trouble.
If you are adventurous, speak some Spanish, and have a decent savings account or parents at home with lots of money to send you, then no big deal. Simply get out and stomp the pavement and do your own thing. Do your homework first though before setting out, because you don't know what you don't know. If you don't possess the documentation necessary to work legally, you could be in for a surprise. Gone are the days of hiring teachers without experience or proper education who are passing through on a travel and teach tour. |
