|
|
Hey all,
This is my first post but I have been utilizing your valuable info for a couple of months now.
I need some advice. I am going to be in B.A. from August to December (a little over 4 months actually). I already got my tickets and will be taking the EBC course in August. From what I have been able to gather, I automatically get 90 days being a U.S. citizen. I need another month.
Is it as easy as taking a weekend trip to Uruguay before the first 90 days are up? Or should I try to get an extension before I leave, or upon arrival. I've never been to South America and can't wait, but this little fly in the ointment has got me concerned. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sam |

Hi Sam,
You don't need to go to Uruguay to get a visa extension, you can go straight to Migrations Office in Retiro/Puerto Madero area and ask for another 90 days. This procedure can be done just once, and it costs 100 pesos. )
Good luck!
Guille

However.... I believe the fine for overstaying is 50pesos (check this though as it may have changed)
So yes... that's 100pesos to do it legally so you dont have to pay the 50 peso fine... |

50 pesos was the amount i saw on the poster at the arg-chilean border last time i did that trip 5 months ago.
A day trip to Colonia in uruguay may be more expensive but it's worth the effort to avoid hours at immigration (having spent hours there on numerous occasions i can say that it ain't fun). Also if they see an extension in your passport they may (a very small chance i think) cause more problems than just having a load of border stamps as you're only allowed to renew once officially. So by doing it officially you may, possibly, cause more problems for yourself. |

|

howdy pardners--i also had the 50 peso fine confirmed last week by the canadian consulate here in BsAs for tourist visa overstays. But a question i have not yet found an answer to is: is there some sort of maximum time allotment for this overstay fine? For example, i want to stay here until next january, and my 90 day visa is up in a couple weeks. So is an overstay of 8 months treated with the same fine as an overstay of one day? Or does the more time you overstay equate to a bigger no-no? Anyone out there with any experience and/or advice in this regard would be helping me out immensely. muchas gracias |
