Hello! I will be living in Tian Mu. I was wondering which visa granting, chinese language school would be the most convenient to attend. I have seen the NTNU and NTU websites, but i have no idea of how far or what transportation is like. I would also like to know if there is a good gym in the neighborhood. Most importantly, where can i get a good beer and meet and converse with diverse peoples?

Also, i may want to teach a little. Is it possible to work less than 15 hours a week? Where?

Regarding transportation, I really don't want to ride a scooter.

Hope to meet some of you people by the end of July. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try this one, it is close to Tien Mue in Yang Ming Shan.

Chinese Culture University

They had a fairly good Mandarin language program but I haven't met anyone in the program for a while.
Be advised that Tien Mue is one of the last major metropolitan areas of Taipei not to have direct access to the MRT system.
Good luck!
A.

Three days! Only one reply? Sad

I hope that doesn't mean you all are working too hard. Any information on the area would be nice.

No direct access to MRT. How far by foot is the station?

What about gyms and beers? They're a great combination.

Legally, 14 hours per week is the minimum for obtaining a work permit and ARC to work legally. You can't legally work on a student visa initially, but as I understand it you can get approval to work once you have been here for a while. I am not sure how long a while is but it is most certainly more than a year.

That's fine. There's no shortage of public transport in places like Taipei and taxis are everywhere.
