My girlfriend and I are considering positions in China teaching English. We are considering a contract with a place called Yang-En University. If anyone knows anything about this school we would appreciate any feedback. |

Do a search of this site. This university has been reviewed before. They tried to recruit me last year some time. There were 100 students in the classes and, if I remember well, the place was in the middle of no where. There was a bus provided to the nearest centre once a week or something.
They phoned me to pitch their offer and whenvever I asked a question they put me off and complained about the high cost of international calls. The pitcher was a woman with an Australian accent who said she was from Toronto. Alarm bells went off and I didn't bite. |

It doesn't sound like a desirable place to work, by any means. I think the poster does make a lot of complaints that come from a lack of understanding of Chinese culture and the realities of life there. His other points about lack of teaching creativity, remote location, and accommodation issues certainly do not sound attractive...
I think a lot of teachers go to China with a rather idealized image of what China is or should be, rather than doing their homework in forums such as this. |
