I would definitely recommend joining a sports club.
Due to me finally managing to get a PNET position (yay!), thus giving me far more sociable working hours (like finishing at 4, rather than 9pm every night like I was doing working at a private centre) I was at last able to join a dragonboat club.
And I've met more people there in the last couple of weeks than I did in the previous 6 months. People from all over the world doing all sorts of jobs. In fact I think I'm the only teacher there. So no risk of talking shop - always a major peril when teachers get together. |

Hmmm....
Five weeks after the OP made his/her request for suggestions -- and no thank you or other statement of appreciation for many excellent responses.
What might that say about the size of her/his circle of friends in HK? |

I find it extraordinary that you cant make friends in HK.
I work in Guangzhou and travel to HK on most weekends and have many friends.
It is much easier to find friends in HK than Guangzhou.
I advise that you broaden your circles and look outside of the ' Gwailo haunts '. |

Yep, I sent him/her a PM suggesting we get together (as I am in a similar position). He/she didn't even bother to respond. |
