Just curious. Who are the new NETs who are following this forum, where are your schools and where do you come from? I know Sypanda5, but who else is out there?
I am from Australia, and my school is Lam Tsuen Public Wong Fook Luen Memorial Primary School in Tai Po. It is an am/pm school. ---- If anyone knows anything about this school, I would be most appreciative of any forewarning.
Hope to hear from some other future NETs. It would be nice to "meet" before we meet in HK.
cheers,
Jenny

Hi -

I'm Bertrand. I'm from England but now live and work in the SAR of HK. There are many thousands of NETs here - both P and S - so don't think you can meet everyone!
Good luck with your new life and job here in HK!

Thanks Bertrand. I understand what you are saying about the number of net teachers - although hadn't realised it was that extensive. But it is nice to know of at least some new nets before starting off. Here in Australia there will be a get together of future primary nets next month, in various locations. That will be a wonderful opportunity to share the excitement and concerns etc. And I was under the impression that over in HK there will also be some kind of meeting up and getting to know people. It would be nice to come across people who had already made some form of contact here. Even if it does seem slightly impropable.
Thanks for the well wishes. The friendliness and helpfulness of the current nets here on this forum is so lovely and welcoming. It makes the world of difference.
cheers,
Jenny

re the new nets ... you will have an induction course conducted by the british council, the induction will be in the last week of august possibly 5 days. At the induction you will get the chance to meet make contacts with new nets plus get sensory overload as well as humidity overload.
Last years induction was good for both information and contacts.
the british council are a large service provider for english language in hong kong and have been paid by the hong kong ed dept to run the induction as well as provide an internet site called pnets where nets exchange ideas concerns etc etc you will be able to join when you get here as they have changed the password .
you will need to quickly make contacts and keep phone numbers and email contacts as once you are in your schools you are isolated and the contacts will help in the frist months. Mobile phones are cheap in hong kong so get one as soon as you are here and use it to stay in touch.

hope this helps

Thanks for the great advice, Arju. I think the first thing I will have to buy is a computer. And get internet connection. I hadn't thought about a mobile phone, so I guess that will be a priority as well. I will price both before coming over and get them as soon as I am able to in Hong Kong. Working in a school where I am the only Caucasian will be a strange and new experience, so I will really appreciate the contact with other nets.
