Most NETs I know go away each and every weekend, either to the Philippines or Thailand.

That is interesting indeed. Given that the teachers must leave after the finish of school on Fridays (as they are doing it each and every weekend the school will not allow them to leave early), then they will get to Thailand/Philipines late Friday night, and then need to leave Sunday evening. I can not be bothered to check the prices of scheduled flights to these destinations, ( I guess as they are leaving each and every weekend then they must booking them in advance...it is difficult to get standby flights so regularly) then that must take an awful lot of money.
I have never met anyone who leaves HK for such places every weekend.
Do you really think that anyone will believe this? |

Most SNETs I know earn around $50,000 or $60,000 HK a month. They leave school at 4pm on Friday and are in Thailand, for example, by 9pm. They return late on Sunday evening. Whether you find it hard to believe or not, that is the way it is. You really don't like the idea of others having more than you, do you? |

I was a secondary NET for six years. I never met one NET in all my time that went to Thailand or any other place that require a trip to the airport every weekend...or every other weekend...or every month...
One reason is that many had things to do at school on Sats...like helping the drama club in my case...the other reason was that it would be quite expensive...
I don't know why Zero that you put yourself as a know-it-all and then make silly statements like this...to be a troll...a good one...you should be credible...things like this make it look like you know next to nothing about the NET program...or about the behaviour of normal people... |

Then your experiences are different to mine. Your opinions have no import. |

Weekend to Phillipines/ Thailand = $3000.
4 x $3000 = $12,000.
SNET wages for one month $50,000 to 60,000.
You could afford a weekend trip comfortably, although you may choose not to. |

SNET salary range....30K-60K...some could afford it...
But that is not what is being alluded to said...yes..NET's could possibly afford to go away every weekend to the beaches of some foreign locale...but they don't.
Zero is making it sound like the majority of NETs both make the high end of the salary...I am not sure that is true...and that they use this money to go away every weekend...again..not true...
Most people I knew at the high end were socking it away looking forward to early retirement not blowing it on weekend excurions (every week)...see...it is the every week thing that makes the whole idea laughable... |

Interesting thread.
But, let's face it, the relationship is not going to last.
And to suggest that most NETs are off for R&R in Bangkok or Manila every weekend is a total load of crap.
Just a couple of sensitive thoughts there.
