Where would you recommend for someone to study Chinese in Taipei?

Does anyone know how many hours a week one has to study to get to a visa without having to leave every thirty days?

I am trying to help a friend find a good deal it seems that in Taipei the schools are more expensive.

My friend is from Poland. She will be visiting me in Taipei this summer. She can get a thirty day visa.

But obviously this would just be too expensive to keep flying in and out so we are trying to find a school where she can be a study without having to go through all this.

Yet in Taipei everything is more expensive.

You need to be enrolled for and attend ten hours of classes per week.

See http://taiwan.8m.net/study.html for some more information about studying Chinese in Taiwan. There are quite a few links to schools in Taiwan there. I don't know that there is a great deal of difference between schools. Maybe just choosing a school based on location and suitable class times is as good a reason as any to choose a particular school.

You can also be a ghost student quite easily, you pay they mark you present. A mate did run into problems after using this for two years. When immigration pulled him in for a chat they conducted the conversation in Chinese, he of course knew none whatsoever.

The university extra mural depts in Taipei all offer various levels tuition from basic conversational to immersion programmes so give them a try and compare quotes. There are a large number of private bushiban type places offering courses. It might be worth your while checking out TEALIT.com which used to have a section on the subject and has a lot of adverts for language exchange. The going rate used to be two hours of english for one hour of chinese but that was in 2003.
