Anyone know if prices of digital cameras/software/electronics in general, are better in Thailand than North America - I would assume that they are...
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,

Actually the U.S. is one of the cheaper places in the world to buy electronics because of the free market economy. I have travelled through Europe and am now in Korea, and notebook computers and cameras usually cost 2-3 times as much as the US. (an average notebook computer costs about $3000 to $4000 in Korea, and I payed almost 2x as much for my digital camera here).
I am heading to Thailand next week. Don't make the same mistake I did and assume just because it has a much lower standard of living that the electronics will be cheaper. I have been wanting to buy a notebook computer for the past two years and am kicking myself for not doing it before I left the U.S.
My bet would be that they are much higher there as well. If you are looking to buy something I would do it before you come, unless you can find a definite quote of it being cheaper in Thailand.
Also, most of the electronics sold in Asia do not include an English user manual.

Agree with George. Its one of these curious things that electronics made in china is cheaper to transport 8,000 to America than 500miles to thailand. ( or whatever the amount is )
I am currently in Pantip Plaza which if you live in Bangkok is virtually the place to come to get cheap stuff ( and Fortune Tower ).
If you want to buy anything before coming here, ask if they have an INTERNATIONAL warranty. I know some companies ( some surprisingly big ) only honour the warranty if you are still in the country you bought the item in.
Of course software is very very cheap here but of course as it is all...cough..copied and not legal you wouldnt do that would you. |
