I understand that late Sept - early October is the best time to get a job over in Spain. I'm just wondering if the schools do their hiring on the fly or do they usually have their teachers lined up already by the time the semester starts. So if I get there late Sept, are all the schools going to have their teachers already?
Also, is it possible to get a job through the net before you get there. I've been sending out resumes, but it seems they perfer a face to face interview.

Best time to get here is the beginning of September, and start getting lessons here and there and going to interviews with a view to getting a full schedule by the end of September. Some do go through the net, but its always a lot easier to do it when youre here (but do send them out via the web, look up addresses in the Yellow Pages, paginasamarillas.es): that way you also get to do a little more shopping around, and also youll know youre new mobile phone number to put on your cv. If youre illegal then forget applying on the web from your home country. In terms of wages, dont accept anything less than 15 euros an hour for in-company work, or 12 euros an hour for academy work: thats the standard here, and accepting less hurts all of us. |

It's pretty typical of private language schools in Europe not to hire prior to a face-to-face interview. Too many have been burned by candidates who'd misrepresented themselves in some way or didn't show up at all. The best you can probably hope for is to line up some interviews in advance, but the real work of finding a job is normally done in person. |

In-company refers to students you teach in their own places of work - implies your travel around the city. In-academy are classes or one on one students who actually come to the language school that employs you. |
