Whenever traffic gets really bad in the city I live in I take to the back roads. Most Czechs are fairly new drivers (less than 10 years) and haven't yet discovered how to wind around back alleys to get past the traffic jams. So at least once a week the road less travelled by makes all the difference in me getting home 1/2 hour earlier and saving a few bucks in gas. What will I do when others disover these bypasses? Start walking again I suppose.

Metaphorically speaking, of course.

since teaching is not my primary path,

I find this curious considering the following other remarks you have made, moonraven.

Quote:
I have taught the following:

Communication
Creative Writing
Technical Writing
Academic Writing
Expository Writing
Methods of Investigation
Speech
Native American History
EFL (all levels)
ESP
EAP
a mini-course in Statistics
a mini-course in Logic
Estrategias de Aprendizaje (developed and taught in Spanish)

I have taught at the junior high, high school and university levels, and have directed and taught at a language school.

Wasn't it also you who wrote that you have been teaching for about 40 years (in a thread that was deleted)? I believe you even listed your teaching career from the 1970s on another thread. So, if it's true, you would be in your 60s, and that pretty much qualifies as a major chunk out of one's life, so what would you consider to have been your "primary path" if not teaching?

Glenski: Yes, I am 60. And I have been teaching--off and on--since 1968.

And it is MY right--not yours--to determine what is my primary path--which has been WRITING since I was 8 years old: 52 years, in fact.

Why not figure out a path for yourself, instead of trying to legislate other peoples'? You have some nerve, buster. And too much time on your hands.

I didn't see that anybody was trying to dictate your path to you. Just asking you what you consider your path to be. I think we would all respect writing as a legitimate path. But so is teaching and you seem seriously dedicated to teaching. It would be natural to assume that was your path in life.

No dictation, take it easy.

Teaching isn't my main path either. I started teaching so I could travel and have time to pursue my main interest. Also I have some talent for it and figured it would be a good task for me in society (my main path is non-money making). Have to do my bit for basic needs and the economy and to not be a sponge on other people.

Nobody's being disrespectful of your writing or your path or your self determination.

Well, I can only state the blatantly obvious. It's your right to deny that, of course.

Ah, yes, attack instead of defend with facts. Sticks and stones. My own path is nicely figured out, thank you.

Legislate? Since when is citing what you yourself have written and bragged about on several occasions considered legislating anything? Now who is butting in on another person's "right"? Pot calling the kettle black, as I see it. If you can't take the heat...

As for too much time on my hands, look at your own accumulation of posts in such a short time here. Hypocrisy in action.

Glenski: In the spirit of the forum, and in respect for its rules: why not contribute something on the topic, instead of filling up the space with more of your hate postings against me?

And Zaneth, it should be patently clear from Glenski's follow-up post that his motives for questioning my path were only to write an abusive post against me.

He's so green with envy that it has clouded his reason.
