Dear yaco,
hope you are going to enjoy both SH and BKK! I have not been to Shanghai for years, but the bar scene around Xiantiandi is reputed to be attractive. Don't know where this is - I guess on Maoming Lu (north of Suzhou Creek), but am not sure! Maybe you can enlighten me...
The Peace Hotel used to be an interesting colonial piece in post-liberation SH. Visit it anyway! It has been refurbished though! I also strongly recommend the Seamen's Club on the Bund, maybe 5 minutes from the Peace Hotel. You can easily recognise it as you approach a kfc - the KFC is in the groundfloor of the Seamaen's CLub.
Have you any idea as to where you are going to bed down? I recommend the PUJIANG, it is a YOuth Hostel now. It's on the confluence of Suzhou Creek and Huangpu RIver, opposite the Russian
And, ignore the arrogant remarks by Sunaru!

Thanks Roger for your assistance.
I will check Shanghai out for 2 days and PM you with a report.
I will stay at the Punjiang Hotel as per your previous post.
You response to contractor earlier was a bit out of character. |

Last night's news said Shanghai is the eleventh most expensive city in the world. My family struggles to spend 3000 a month, but I guess the message is, if you want to blow money, you can do it as easily here as in any city. Look at www.thatsshanghai.com and www.expatsh.com for recommendations on bars [including drink prices] and restaurants. On page 5 of this forum Senor has a thread about going to Shanghai and there's advice in there. The Irish bar mentioned is hugely popular. |

Not much time to drain my bank balance - I hope !!!!!!!! |
