Great help Tess having you describe the contents of these texts. Can you please have a look at the contents page and tell me which of the Shakespearian plays have extracts in the text? I feel a little more confident about these texts now that you have explained their content. Thanks.
Coming from Australia we thought about introducing some of our own Australian literary texts (into the Chinese classroom )specially short-stories, poems, songs etc..............what do you experienced teachers out there think of that idea? Remember we will be teaching 'Teachers of English' at this particular College in Guandong not school children.
Cheers

The Shakespeare extracts are from Hamlet and The Merchant of Venice.

The students also have Selected Readings in American Literature Parts I and II and A Survey of American Literature. I am Australian, too, and much better versed in British/Aus Lit than American for earlier periods. I am now half-way through the course and plan to incorporate more American Lit next term. I have already given a class on early Aus Lit and will continue to integrate it when I can.

An important question to ask is whether your class is "formal" or "informal". Mine is "informal" and I am very glad of that - far less restricting.
