Just curious....
Who's been a member of these forums the longest?
And who has the most posts? |

Click on Memberlist and you can sort by join date, number of posts, etc.
Exclude those who joined earlier but have never posted and the winner on both counts is scot47, a proud member since 10 January with 810 posts and counting. However, Roger is close behind (807), followed by johnslat (679). Congratulations, gentlemen!
Hmm, I wonder if it's significant that two of the top three are in Saudi Arabia? Guess there really is nothing better to do in the kingdom. |

Doing a sort on the current member list is misleading. My results show I joined in January 2003, but that means only that I joined the current format of this forum. I have really been posting for over 5 years. |

Good point, Glenski--pity that there's no count from the boards before the format changed. Maybe Dave's got the info stashed in his lair. Even though I know it's still the ESL Cafe, the character of it has changed so that I tend to think of it as a different board--but that's just me.
Instead of asking who's made the most posts, I'd like to know who has made the most helpful posts. In that regard, you'd have to be close first place, although keNt wouldn't be far behind with all his references and word origins and what-not.
I'll lay claim to the honor of most pointless poster. 160 posts now and yet virtually all of them are devoid of anything useful. Now that's an achievement to be proud of! |

Dear Irish,
As to the quantity ( we'll leave the quality out of this ) of my posts, well, yes - it does help ( personally, anyway ) if you don't have a life.
Regards,
John |

Ah, but you'll soon be departing the KSA. What is it--two, three weeks left to go? Does that mean we'll see a dramatic decline in your number of posts once you're back in the homeland with access to all its decadent diversions?
No complaint about the quality of your posts. The story about the well is a classic. |

Dear Irish,
Will the number of my posts decline in 19 days ( but who's counting? ) time? Lord, I hope so. Decadent diversions? Um, would you classify being able to actually talk to people ( away from work ), going hiking/camping in the wilderness of the American southwest and visiting such dens of iniquity as libraries, museums, theaters, etc. as " decadent? If so, then I'm planning on becoming one decadent son of a . . . gun. Oh, I'll still drop by Dave's every so often, I imagine. But certainly not as often as I do now - inshallah. Glad you liked the " well " article - what a hoot.
Regards,
John |

No, but it sounds like your Saudi pals might. Although I'm not planning to work in the KSA (my attitude and chromosomes disqualify me), I'm still hoping to work in the Middle East after graduation, inshallah. Lately, I've been stocking up on similar diversions in anticipation of future deprivation. And I'm practicing working inshallah into conversation. If I start working there in September 2004, my post count here should reach, oh, 2000 by March 2005.
Inshalloha,

My votes for top posters...
1) Glenski..for continual good sense and setting a good tone on the Japan forum
2) JohnSlat overall good guy that I would trust my sheep with
3) Kent For digging up interesting stuff, and having a sharp brain, no matter how well-hidden it is.
Newcomer- Well, i want to be PC, so we need a girl..Capergirl?
But it isn't PC to call yourself a girl, you know (But her avatar is smoking!)
Of course there are just too many categories...Like most non-sensical posts the former Monsewer Gordon Canuck from China Post.
The best rabble rouser? The door is shut on that category
The Most Intelligent (Besides me, of course) Sherri? I have been enjoying her posts lately (Sunaru, get your mind out of the gutter she is probably married anyways)
Most obnoxious avatar...Uranus???
Glenski...get a life...get an avatar! Someone pick out an avatar for Glenski
And I guess the old man of the ESLifers is, always has been, and always will be Scot the GURU ? Who I am sure will continue to protest even on the other side. |

@arioch36...Thank you for the compliments. I'm surprised that people have taken such a liking to my avatar. Perhaps if I dressed like that more often in real life, people would take a liking to me as well. (kidding) I know that it is un-PC to use the term "girl" these days, but if you have been following the posts, you will see that I am somewhat un-PC as a rule. (ah, just kidding again) |

Dear arioch36,
" overall good guy that I would trust my sheep with "
Probably because I'm an old goat - but no, your sheep would be safe with me. It's true I have been over here quite a while, but neither the sheep nor the camels have started looking good yet. That's why I getting out - when they DO start looking good, it's already too late. Thanks for the trust -and the compliment ( he said sheepishly ).
Regards,
John |

Thanks for the compliment in statement number one. Would you care to explain the avatar and "get a life" please? |

No, no, arioch, don't you see? Not having an avatar is the ultimate statement! It's...deep, man. The alpha and the omega. Yin and yang. Everything and nothing. Glenski does not impose an image of himself upon you. Instead, he allows you to create your own sense of his true self. Read his words, close your eyes, and chant, "Sapporo," over and over again until a mental image of his avatar appears in your mind.
Between teaching, family obligations, professional development, and dispensing solid advice on multiple boards, I think he has all the life he can handle.
Oh, and, by the way, Glenski, I never did congratulate you on your impending fatherhood, so...congratulations! |

Why Glenski,
Don't you know that if you don't have an avatar, you are just not a real person. Take me, now. I have given in to the mob hysteria. I have an avatar, and I use emoticons. I am just another pathetic sheep following the herd. But whenever I get cofused in life, wondering who I am, I can come to Dave's, look at my avatar, and know that I really am somebody |

As everybody here seems to focus entirely on the employment boards I'd like to nominate the top posters from the teacher discussion forum.
For the top posters on the teacher discussion forums I'd like to nominate
in no particular order will mcculloch and Larry Latham. I don't know if they post most, but their posts are certainly worth reading.
Regards
Stephen |
