The official unofficial word is that college and university teachers and staff will NOT be getting the pay-hike. So there you have it - and you read it here first!

I guess that's why the HCT vice-chancellor was resigned - cos he sent out an e-mail saying they would be getting it!

As far as UAEU is concerned, the expat (various nationalities) admin staff (secretaries, office workers, etc) certainly believe that they'll be getting the pay rise. So do the Emirati teaching staff and office workers. When I suggested last week that we might not be getting it, the ones I spoke to were baffled .... They wondered for what reason we might not get it, as we're all government employees. Has something happened since last week?

SandyM (and other posters), what reasons have you heard for colleges' and universities' staff and teachers not to get it? Confused

hahaha...oh you are missing soooooooo much gossip. Smile
(but this being the Gulf, we don't gossip) Smile

As for the raise I think you are most likely right. A May raise is probably unlikely at this point. but...(stay tuned)

By the way good to see another HCTer here.

Just like turtlepi1, I'm a 'glass half full' person, though it's getting more difficult by the day with this one! I was staying anyway, and though lots of people in my college would be less than happy if we don't get it, I don't think anyone is going to resign over it. Afterall, depending on your director, you'd have to give 6 months, (finishing in November) which is a little akward for finding jobs elsewhere!
As for the VC, the email rumour is a good one, but he was on the way long before that...

Hi tuttifruitti... long time no see!! It will be interesting to see if anyone actually bails out over this. I just hope that common sense prevails and they admit that you teachers ARE government employees and it is farce for them to state otherwise.

Hey VS, had a lot of visitors!!
This is definitely a 'watch this space' topic, and no-one seems to want to give a definitive answer! Last I heard, we are not considered 'civil servants' in the way the municipality workers/military etc are, but who knows?! We definitely deserve it, increased cost of living requires it, but who knows...
Cool

Turtlepi1, if we get the pay hike in our pay-packets at the end of this month, I'll buy you a meal at Vasco's in Abu Dhabi. And if we don't get it, you buy me the meal - OK?!

Said I was an optimistic person not a stupid one. Smile

I'll make you a deal...I'll buy you the lunch when we don't get it in May if you will buy me the lunch when we DO get it in September....

Deal?

Are you coming to Abu Dhabi anytime soon?

**EDIT: Sorry thought you were someone I knew from Dubai. Just noticed the UK tag. But the offer still stands. Smile

Dear me Eric
Always the same story, you should buckle up, knuckle down and get on with it. Your rewards are not always financial

*tsk tsk tsk*

Depending on how long ecl has been at HCT that isn't really a fair criticism. I haven't been here a long time and as I said I am content and me complaining about the raise would be "sour grapes", but some people are making less (up to 45% less) than when they were first here. I hardly think that calls for just "bucking up". Smile

But it sounds like you know each other so I will leave you to it. Razz

Let's bring this one back to the top. MLI (the army) has given us the 15% raise. I'm curious who else got it and who didn't. BTW, it's the shortest raise in my life as CERT (HCT) has gone back on its word to match it! Evil or Very Mad

Hi GF

Yes, but I heard that they raised the MLI people a notch on the HCT scale so that they didn't lose it.

You heard wrong VS! The top salary at the MLI next year will be 12,900 and some change. Most of the teachers here were set to make 12,900 next year under GHQ. However, with the 15% raise today we got around 14,300 and some change. HCT have now gone back on their word and WILL NOT match it. Of course it isn't the only thing they have gone back on.
