Naturegirl doesn't let the grass grow under her feet!
I suggest a visit to the local Ayuntamiento will help you find out about the documentary requirements.
Forgive me for being blunt, but be aware that there are a lot of unscrupulous people who marry foreigners as a way of getting a passport to a new life. Anyway, I wish you success. |

Aaaawwwwww, don't they grow up fast...seems like only a couple of months ago we were dishing out advice on contraception and now...marriage....
Good luck with it all. I'd get yourself a lawyer to deal with all the bureaucracy, much more likely to understand all the internal rubbish/politics that goes on with something like this.
Enjoy. |

If you want the marriage to be recognised in your country, check in your consulate. They will ask a lot of relatively impertinent questions about your relationship, but they're your best source of info for this. (Probably ask how long you've known each other, for example...)
Regards,
Justin
PS Congrats and good luck. |

I had a British friend who got married in Peru last year (or maybe this year, Im not sure of the date). The red tape and paper work was a nightmare, and on top of that all the judges were on strike for several months, and they couldnt get married. After about a year of trying, they finally tied the knot. I will ask her for her advice.

As for ::::Forgive me for being blunt, but be aware that there are a lot of unscrupulous people who marry foreigners as a way of getting a passport to a new life..
My wife is Brazilian....and well she didnt want to live in the states so I moved here to Brazil...everyone that is from Latin America doesnt want to live in the USA.....I have met many people here that dont want to leave.....So good luck naturegirl.......
And if I was you...I would find the American Consular in your area...just get married there first...then file the papers with Peru..that what we did..got married in the states...then filed the paper work in Brazil.....if we had gotten married here...well...we wouldnt have gotten married....Too much paper work....
Good luck |

Portochuck, I stand by what I said. There are, unfortunately, plenty of people who marry foreigners as a means of getting a passport. A woman in the UK recently received a ten-year prison sentence for running a marriage-for-passport scam. A former student of mine in Spain told me of a friend who married a Cuban girl who asked if she could bring her "brother" over too. He turned out to be her boyfriend.
These marriages are, thankfully, the exception rather than the rule. |

Naturegirl - As you know, the last gringa woman I know who married a Peruvian moved to the States with him and is now trying to get the marriage annulled...after only 6 months of being married. Be careful! I recommend waiting a little longer, perhaps maybe a year, before deciding. Every "man" I met in Peru just wanted a ticket to get out of the country. Some of them were more honest about this than others, but that is the way it was.
Good Luck! |

I don't believe that Naturegirl asked for advice on whether or not she should get married. I believe she wanted advice on how to get married in Peru.
I don't think its fair that you put her in the position of defending her relationship/marraige to a bunch of strangers, especially when your advice was completely unsolicited.
Congratulations Naturegirl! |
