Im currently in Korea, where I have been teaching ESL for almost two and a half years. Ive decided that with the worsening situation for teachers in Korea that its time for a change of scenery. What I would appreciate is some advice from the people on this forum mainly for the following things -

1) Who are the good recruiters and schools to work for?

2) Who should I avoid?

2) If anyone is leaving a good school in the last week of June can I have your job?! Wink

thanks
Andy

Hi Andy.
Recruiters on Taiwan should be avoided all together as the notoriously unscrupulous and for the most part unnecessary.
As far as places and schools to avoid please read this.
http://www.geocities.com/taiwanteacher2002/Success.html
Also note that wages and working conditions continue to deteriorate on Taiwan for foreign teachers.
Another good piece of advise is to avoid registering your personal information with job placements agencies or web sites on Taiwan as no real protection against information theft exist on Taiwan and many of them will blacklist you if your employer request it.
Good luck and welcome to the ROC.
A.

Rubbish.

Just have a look at this very thread on Daves to see that there are legitimate recruiters out there. You shouldn't blindly trust anyone, but don't be afraid to investigate recruiters if you feel that they can help you.

What exactly are we meant to be looking at at the link you provided?

I see that you recommend againts chain schools and recruiters (which comprise probably 80% of the legal jobs in Taiwan). But I don't see how this information helps determine which employers are good. So assuming that we shouldn't work for chains or recruiters then who should teachers work for Aristotle. Maybe you could name some schools that through your extensive experience you have realized are good employers.

That's not true. The facts of the situation show the opposite. Wages are up now from what they were in the past - only marginally though!

Does that include your own secret society Aristotle? Afterall, you have made it clear that information is only available to members. Most websites about Taiwan that I am familiar with have extensive information available to non-members free of registration. Your site is one of the few exceptions where there is next to no information made available unless you sign up.
