You just don't know when to stop do you Zero. I take it from your last comment you can provide no evidence that the average salary in HK is 48,000? Your comment about my salary is again very silly. My salary is only important in as much as it helps to make up the average here, which according to government figures is around 15,500 a month. Now if you have some secret figures that the government doesn't have about earnings in HK, I suggest you contact them. They may give you a reward, which may go some way to boosting up your own salary, which by your own figures is some 26,000 per month short of the average. |

You two simply do not know when to stop, do you? Aren't you getting embarrassed with your ramblings? 'Asia Traveller', if I were you I would go and revise the publications dates of classic works such as the Standard Theory, and 'Once Again' should simply exercise self-censorship, as ignorance should be kept to oneself. Come to think of it, can't you find a primary school forum to join, 'Once Again'? After all, you are only a primary school teacher, aren't you? Don't you get bored teaching colours and shapes? As a university language instructor and a PhD candidate I am simply in a different class to you, whether you can see it or not. |

"only a primary school teacher"
It is quite Obvious Zero that you are not a Phd candidate in the field of education. Having done my masters work in the how young L2 learners develop their readng and writing skills, I can assure you that teachers do a lot more than teach shapes and colours. Developing the skills necessary to make students effective readers in their L1 or the target langauge is quite a difficult and important task.
I really can't see how any educator can so easily dismiss the work in involve in teaching young learners. I have taught young learners, middle school students, high school students and university students and can tell you each has its own problems and rewards. |

You mean the author of 'The Games Hong Kong People Play'? No, it's not me, but he is an acquaintance of mine.
And it's Dr. George Adams. |

So full of himself is Zero Ludwig that he takes every chance he can to remind people of his aspirations toward a doctoral degree. No matter that there are hundreds of thousands of others around the world who are pursuing doctorates. The Luddite is the only such candidate who is worthy of the title. He'll go on and on and on about it -- as if Ph.D. candidacy is actually proof of something -- in a discussion about sexually transmitted diseases.
I'm holding in my hand a copy of Aspects of the Theory of Syntax, by Noam Chomsky. The publication date of this volume was 1969, and it was issued by the MIT Press as a paperback. It's been a volume on my shelves for over thirty years.
If Luddy wants to quibble that 1969 wasn't THE year in which the original hardcover volume was first published (i.e., 1965), he's indicating that he's even more pettily pedantic than we all thought. It's been well over twenty-five years since I've needed to cite any work of Chomsky's, and my dissertation was definitely not about syntax or any other area in which Chomsky worked. In fact, the name never appears in my thesis.
[But why, I wonder, do I still know all of the opus numbers and dates of the compositions of Arnold Schnberg??? I still hate most of that music.]
How wicked and illiterate I must be! How despised I must be by those who aspire to a true Ph.D. (which appears to be, by definition, one in the rather pedestrian field of syntax)! How commonplace I must be if I don't worship at the altar that is Chomskyism!
At least I don't commit outrageous Luddite malaprops, as if I were a non-native speaker of English.... (Ah, but the latter is from another wonderful thread.)

His ridiculous, little, pathetic, sarcastic one line, purposively provocative posts, tell us a lot about his underlying mentality (or lack thereof).

I take it you haven't been able to find any figures to back up your average daily wage figures then Zero. |

Yet again the two forum worms crawl out of the woodwork. And again they both attempt to divert attention from their own sorry states.
1,6000 RMB a day is a totally normal salary for those with the pre-requisite qualifications and experience, whether you like it or not. |

Luddy Zero still doesn't dare admit that he was wrong when he originally posted on this thread.
Uninformed as usual, Zero the Luddite wrote: |
Wouldn't such a series of [STD] tests and checks also cost a day's wages in the US or the UK? |
In the U.S., such tests and checks are free to anyone (citizen or not) who wants them. There are plenty of public health clinics in the U.S. that offer free (that means no-cost) testing and treatment for STDs to anyone who shows up. But of course I've written this several times already.
Day's wages? Only if you're paid a ZERO salary.
The pathetic one's bold response?
Blindly oblivious to the posted facts, Zero Ludwig wrote: |
I was right in every regard, as you well know. |
Yes, dear. You were perfectly right. Now go eat a biscuit. |

In which case then, $25,000 is a totally normal salary for those with the pre-requisite qualifications and experience. By the same token, $200 a day is a totally normal salary for those with the prerequiste qualifications and experience.
I guess you have searched for and not found figures to back up your salary claim. |

seems to have an imported wife |
Now before this thread gets locked and I have a feeling that it will, I would like to call upon Zero to apologize for this remark.
I believe Zero has the right to say what he wants abot poster who does verbal battle with within the confines of this forum...but it just wrong to start to insult people's families/wives.
I have met Mrs. Once again...and have found her to be nothing but charming and she in no way deserves to become a target for insult.
Let's try and keep to the same rules as the Mafia and not attack families... |
