I'd welcome any INFO--either on this thread or via PM--regarding innovations in NZ's Primary Schools. Is it as good as it sounds?
Thanks
5. In New Zealand, those educational leaders from China were "blown away" by the incredible breakthroughs they found in our primary schools: particularly the marriage with what we might call "accelerated learning" (I prefer "the world's best learning methods")with the world's best interactive technology. This latter field, of course, is my specialty (44 years now in multimedia productions, including television directing, producing and presenting; and in radio and journalism).
6. As an example: at one state primary (elementary) schools, the English-speaking Chinese were greeted by an English-speaking eight-year-old Korean boy. A year before he could speak no English and had then only recently arrived in New Zealand. He took them into a demonstration room at the school (actually the school's staff coffee bar) and showed them a multimedia presentation, combining videotape, slides and computer animations, together with music and commentary in English) on the history of New Zealand, including a Maori fable (he had done the lot: shot the videotape, done the animations, added the music and English commentary). THIS IS TYPICAL OF WHAT IS NOW BEING ACHIEVED IN NEW ZEALAND PRIMARY SCHOOLS: not all of them but in at least 100 model schools which have used interactive technology and instant communications as the joint catalyst to rethink all aspects of teaching: including developing all children, from aged five, as multimedia journalists! |
