Anyone care to comment on the fact that Honda was caught cheating in Formula 1 racing and have been barred from competition for two races, plus had their previous podium finish disqualified? I never thought a Japanese team would even consider cheating at sport. Then get caught. And have the world find out about it.

Do you think it's worse for a Japanese team for the world to find out that they're cheaters than a racing team from another culture? Liars and cheats are liars and cheats, but wouldn't it be more shameful for the Japanese to be caught?

I don't find it suprising at all, especially considering the latest scandals with companies like Mitsubishi & even the health/pension admin office. I would even say it is ingrained in the society to some degree: not sports particularly.

Um

BAR stands for British American Racing, Honda only supplies the engines, team management (responsible for the weight fiasco) is by British American. Would you like a tissue to wipe the egg from your face?

BTW Toyota have just been pinged for an licensing oversight but me suspects the heavy hand of Ferrari involved in these backroom fights.

Corruption is endemic in every society, not just in Japan. Look at Cheney and Halliburton, Boeing and the USAF, and the deep doo-doo that the Canadian Prime Minister finds himself in. Japanese companies are no different. Is corruption ingrained in the US and Canada too, or do they have a different kind of sleaze?

I even just read that Tsutsumi Yoshiaki who owns Seibu Lions (He's bigger than God according to his underlings) and CEO of Seibu department stores, one of the richest men in japan, has had to resign as a result of a corporate scandal.

When someone is forced to resign from a corruption scandal in a Western country, they are not usually given a consulting position with a big fat salary. Corruption is indeed endemic in Japan. When it occurs the culprits suffer no real consequences. They are just removed from the public eye. I am not saying that corruption is more endemic in Japan because western people are morally superior, but rather that the legal systems in Western courntries are designed to curtail it better. In Japan the legal system is designed to preserve the status quo and that means don't let the mighty tumble too far no matter how dishonest or inept they might be. Justice is a Western concept.

No, I haven't. Do you happen to know of some recent history that can back up your argument? And no, you can't make any Bush remarks since he hasn't been forced to resign yet.

The illusion of justice is a universal concept, though Plato did discuss the real thing at length, thus making it later to become a Western concept.

Weird how certain people reacted to this post.
I made a FALSE accusation of cheating by Honda due to my ignorance of the sport of F1 and people respond with comments about how corrupt Japan is.
