Hi everyone,

I am a relative newbie looking for work in (among other places)Venezuela and would like some advice about a position Ive come across. Has anyone worked for or heard about Canadian Educational Services? Its in Valencia and pays 300,000 BS a month, plus room and board in the directors house. Teachers go to homes and businesses to teach, rather than working out of a classroom, and my hunch is that this would mean a huge amount of travel time in addition to lesson prep and 30 hours per week of classes. This seems like a lot of time and work for not much money, but Im having a hard time figuring out what is standard in Venezuela. Any information or feedback would be much appreciated!

I was offered a job for a million b's a month, but no room and board, at a private school. I checked on the salary with friends who teach there and they said a million is a good start.

Valencia is relatively easy to navigate in terms of travel, but how will you get around? Taxis are cheap but not on that salary. Buses are cheaper...

Living in the boss's house? Personally I'd rather stick forks in my eyes, but it takes all sorts. Perhaps he'll let you sleep under the kitchen table with the dog, with whom you can tussle over scraps Smile

By the way, 300k VEB is $140 USD. Congratulations. That's the worst pay I've ever seen offered anywhere, bar none. I earned more than that at my summer job when I was twelve - in the 1970's.

English Language Schools! Bringing D i c k e n s (lol - censorship!) to life in a country near you!

I would reply, thanking him for his entertaining offer, and assure him that should you ever find yourself stranded in the nineteenth century, he'll be the first person you call...er 'cable' Cool

There are always suckers--that guy has been running that same scam in Valencia for at least 4 years.
