hi
would appreciate some advice.

i have been approached by an efl/esl institution in singapore offering the equivalent of US$2500 pcm. is this a respectable financial offer considering local cost of living ?
i dont have many other details yet but it seems like accommodation could be provided by them ie on top of salary quoted earlier.
any comments appreciated.
regards
basil

Sounds pretty okay to me, especially with housing thrown in.
Is there a catch? If not, do they need another experienced TESOL teacher?
Good luck.

A lot of the schools will try to heap extra work on you for that price. S$2,500 should get them about 25 contact hours a week, during the day and without significant paperwork.

The average 'full time' teacher works a 44 hour week. Many, many teachers work a half day on Saturday to 'give face' to the principle and there are horror stories aplenty about the working conditions. Forwarned is forearmed.

I have a close friend that is East Indian Singaporian who was a teacher for the public school system and she worked over 40 hours on a regular bases. And the conditions (bad administration) left her burnt out.

She actually gave up her Job but still does lessons on the side.

Also, I have been to Singapore and while I do not know about ESL scene, everyone I met spoke great english. Did not notice a shoratage of English speaking Nationals? But then agian, I was not looking.

I do know that Real Estate is high...
If you want to talk to my friend who was born and riased and still lives in Singapore PM me and I will forward you her email.
