Hi all,

I've been offered a positon with Omega Language Instutute in Shanghai. Can anyone verify its credibility or lack thereof? I've just completed a year (15 month) contract with a private middle school and my Z visa expires June 30,2003. So I may have to go with Omega rather quickly. Thoughts?
Muchas Gracias, Merci Beaucoup, Terimah Kasi, and Xie xie in avance.

When I was last in Shanghai, about a year ago, you could go to the local visa office and get a 90 day "L" tourist visa to tide you over until you located a new job. Took the presure off. Cost around 250 rmb as I recall.

Telfort is a good place for a summer job and they will get your "Z" for you. That gives you time to look around.

Taking a job just because of a visa problem may be a decision you may regret sooner than later.

You may not be aware that Dave has a "job information journal" where posts are made about specific schools.

An example is pasted for you:

Omega boasted being only 10 minutes from the downtown of Shanghai and offered a host of benefits to offset the otherwise low wages. It all looks good on the website but the management (or lack thereof) is simply in a constant turmoil so timetables change daily along with any plans you may have had and they are recruiting again.
I think there any number of good schools offering good positions and renumeration that are in fact only 10 minutes from the downtown - not one hour which is the general travel time in the afternoons. I strongly recommend you seek employment elsewhere!!!

Good luck!
