Hi! I just got a position to teach in UAE. My husband and I are planning to start IVF there. I know the health insurance does not cover IVF, pregnancy or birth. Does any one know how advanced or expensive those treatments are in UAE?[/b]

Wow, that's a pretty big decision to take in a new country! I realy have no idea about IVF but plenty of people have babies here with no problem, mostly in the local maternity hospital (Al Wasl in Dubai, not sure where you're going to work but their facilities should be generally similar).

The American Hospital has very high standards and prices to match: you might like to check out their website:

If you tell us where you're going to be, someone might be able to think of some more places to try.

Medical insurance doesn't cover pregnancy or birth in UAE? Sounds like Japan, except they give you a "gift" which almost covers the costs.

Hi falabrazil,

I have some experience in this area. We used the services of a fertility clinic and though insurance did not cover it, it was affordable on my average teacher's salary. If you want to PM me, I'll tell you more. As for hospitals, the American hospital is excellent and very expensive, but health care in general is excellent in the UAE, and there are several other hospitals you could use. My wife had her baby at the Corniche Hospital, the government maternity hospital in Abu Dhabi, and the TOTAL cost was 50 dirhams, which is approximately $13.50 (USD).
