Yes this is the same post as of 2 days ago before I was told by the administrators to re-post after some problems! Thanks for those who replied on the original post, all your comments were most valuable.
Yes I have posted to numerous other forums since I really have no idea of where to teach yet! Guess that maybe lazy in the eyes of some! For me I was just doing research.so here is the original post if you want to reply! Thanks!
I have a degree and master degree in business from a UK uni, a 2 week TESOL course qualification, a CELTA, 2 years teaching experience in a college in Thailand, and when i finish my contract at my present job, i will have had 1 years experience in a prestigious Korean university.
My question to all you knowledgeable people out there, is this....
1)What is the best job I can get there with my qualifications in terms of money/hours/holidays etc etc.
2)I dont need to save money, but I dont want to lose money from home either. Is it possible?
3)I dont want to work split shifts. Is it possible to find a good schedule?
4)I would only like to work at 1 institution. Is this possible?
5)Obviously its nto a deciding factor, but always worth asking. What is the dating scene like there, and is there any chance of having a girlfriend?
How long are the contracts usually for and what happens of you want out?
Any ideas or comments would be most welcome! |

The answers vary too much to easily answer in a single post. Take a look through the job information journals and previous posts; all the information you want is there.

Is this a serious question? If you have to ask.... |

Teaching English would be the easiest job to find. Specially if you spanish is not really good. For finding a job the bigger cities have more english schools than the small ones.
A good way to find out if there are a lot of english school and what their addresses are is looking in the mexican yellow pages.

Your qualifications and experiences look good. Expect to do a demonstration class. At our school this is really importened. We choose our teachers by thier performance on the demonstration class.
Payment will be between 40 and 150 pesos an hour. Their is sometimes a big difference between rates but the avarage will be around 45 pesos an hour. In Guadalajara you can live from about 5000 till 6000 pesos a month. This differs from place to place.
You can rent her a furnished apartment for about 2000 till 3000 pesos per month. Be aware that the first month you probably will spend some more money. You probably have to stay some where more expensive till you find your apartment.
Hours all depends on the school. Some schools have split hours some dont.
It is possible to only work for one school but you probably have to start with a few hours. A lot of schools give you fist some hours and when they are satisfied they will give you some more.
Dating scene is really good in Guadalajara only if you speak Spanish.
As far as I know not a lot of schools have contract concerning time periods and they more or less can sack you when they want. On the other hand you always can go when ever you want. Works to ways.
If you have more questions just ask,

With all that Korean money you're saving your best bet would be to turn up and give yourself a month or so to do some doorknocking, check out where you might like to live, and as Wouter said show off your (teaching) talents a bit.
Contracts are more of joke in Mexico than they are here in the ROK, if you want out it's no big deal, but you'll have to change your visa if you want to do things legally. About US$200 with all the running around and documentation required.
Can't imagine why you'd want to leave the Land of the Morning Calm, though. |

I can.
Korea is a lot more financially stable than Mexico, as far as jobs teaching English go, but there are a lot of cultural aspects in the land of Kimchi that are shall we say.......... grating.
Mexico for me has always been more relaxed and enjoyable, also the students are a lot easier to teach. Perhaps this is because of the similarities between Spanish and English and/or the cultural influence of the US.
Not that Mexico doesn't have its own set of problems, but the culture in Mexico is a lot easier on the nerves than all the pushing and shoving in Korea. |
