I am seriously considering quitting my job and going down to Argentina in November. I have been looking into places to take spanish, thinking this would be a first step and then see what happens from there. I found a great school with a great price that offers private apartments. Does this sound legitimate? Is there any way to tell? They don't require payment until you arrive so I guess that is a good sign. The company is called ECELA and their website is www.latinimmersion.com. If anyone has heard of them or has any advice please help me out |

I have been looking into studying Spanish part time (and working part time) in Buenos Aires, starting in October. The program that I am looking at right now, is at the University of Buenos Aires.
They offer an eight week class that meets eight or ten hours a week for between US$200-250, or $570-685 pesos, and I believe that is for the entire 8 weeks. Works out to about US$3.50 per hour, which is pretty darn cheap.
Has anyone taken courses there? Can anyone give us more information on the program at the UBA?
Here is the website http://www.idiomas.filo.uba.ar/extranjeros/ingles/cursos/regulares.htm |

el nota-
i didn't take spanish courses at uba but i was enrolled in the regular courses. it was pretty disorganized and class was frequently canceled so the students could participate in the various protests going on. overall, it was great. my professors were all very nice and supportive of the students (including myself), the students were also nice and helpful, and i actually learned a lot that semester.
i'm not sure how much my experience is compatible with what you want to do, but uba was typical of most of my argentine experiences - nice people in the midst of chaos. you just go with it and it all turns out ok. but get everything in writing if you can! |
