31 I'm surprised you're not aware of ET's infamous effort to lower salaries last year. However, I've gleaned that some of the crap that's done at the Taks. Branch isn't necessarilly done at other branches.

Earning around 25 or more per hr. is certainly possible. One of my friends has such a job. It's a small co. she works less hours and makes the same or more money than before. You have to know how to shop around. And such jobs won't always be posted on the net.

TD[/quote]

I know about the hourly wage lowering-it has been done to death here and in the job info journal-not to mention at numerous bars and house parties. But we were told that that was in the past.

Why don`t you shop around?

TEFL is full of the ''I do 8 hours a month and get paid 2000 dollars'' or ''I used to be a stockbroker and earned 120 000 a year in the city.'' TEFL dreamers-another category.

I got payed 35 an hour from a group that sends teachers out to companies. Their office is in Levent. I stopped working for them because the client wanted hours I could'nt give. Yet I hope I can work for them again.
So sorry 31, its not always a dream

I can vouch for DMB on this one. Go on 31, send him your CV.

Then you would give it to you know who and I would get sacked.

Yeah I know what you mean. Just the other day I was offered 150 Euros an hour to do private lessons but I though bollox I don`t need the hassle.

TEFL it`s not about the money.

I'm sorry 31, I don't know who. Do you mean Molly? Don't worry about that. She knows the schedules of all the teachers working for her, and some of your posts have been made at times when all of her staff have been in class at one time or another. That's why she's not bothered by you any more.

And it is not possible to get someone to post on your behalf. That is probably against the forum rules.

I doubt if even Macaulay Culkin would testify in support of that defence!

Whats the point your trying to make 31. Don't you think that you can make more than 20-25 an hour or what Confused

You know as well as anyone that if you have a good net work and some good local friends then you can always earn more Exclamation

The top jobs in this city are found via word of mouth or recommendation. Only a fresh face off the boat would work for a low rate.

I'm not sure if I have responed to what you said or not Question

I suppose you meant by ''top jobs'' slightly less crap than the other TEFL jobs. If the longtermers in Istanbul are making so much money with their networks and word of mouth top jobs, why do they have to go to places like Qatar or Kuwait and work for 1300 quid a month?

Look its all tied to lifestyle and cost of living. 1300 or even 1500 pounds a month is about between 3750 Y.T.L to 4250Y.T.L and that is great. Yet I feel that one can enjoy life here for less. If you earn around 2500 to 3000 Y.T.L a month, that will give you the same take home pay as the gulf. So yes people can earn well and some do go to the gulf, and yes there are places that pay more. Confused
So what ;;the question as I understand it ( since you said what dmb was saying was a dream ) is can you earn 20 or more an hour and answer is yes. We all know that Exclamation

Of all the countries in the world why did you write Qatar, hardly a major efl centre. Was that aimed at me? If it was then I didn't have to and it wasn't for 1300 quid a month. I chose to go there.
Remind us 31 where do you work and how long have been here. 10 years or 3 months (with scrabble board and Oxford Learners dictionary)
Apologies to all the regular posters and the mods, but negativity and constant slagging off of the country and profession I love annoys me. Please 31 explain to us. If you hate Turkey and EFL so much why are still here or teaching. Explain to all. it would help us oldies understand and it might help newbies or those wishing to come to this country we call home. Your views are always welcome.
