Where is your favourite place to buy books? for pleasure or for work. what kind of luck have you had with Amazon.com and those kinds of places? |

I used to go to R. Crusoe, but I got sick of them because their selection of fiction doesn't change much and I found too much of an emphasis on British pop fiction. So I changed to Pandora, which has more American literary fiction, but their selection doesn't change much either, so I don't know what I'll do when I've gone through all of theirs.
I've never ordered Amazon directly to Turkey-- last time I checked, they add $15-20 for international shipments, so usually what I do is order from here to my address in the US, then collect them when I go home. Either that, or my dad's already got it and I take his copy. I don't know why there's that big international fee form Amazon-- my dad sometimes sends me books using the postal service's book rate, and, though it takes a bit longer, it's just a few dollars.
I heard tell of a foreign book exchange somewhere in Beyoğlu-- I have a pile of books in English I'd like to get rid of. Anyone know exactly where this is? Or if it's any good? |

The book exchange is only open 5 to 7 on weekdays (not sure about Sat). I know the woman who runs it but I have actually never used it, as I have been lucky with friends bringing me books. however, my selection is getting a little thin. I put the books I've read and don't want to keep on the shelf in the teachers' room at Taksim ET.
How about a place for used Eng textbooks? is there such a thing? |

There is a pasaj over in behind the post office in Kadikoy. Also on the street in the same area (on Sunday I think) Haven't been over in ages so some of Asian dwellers will be better informed.
for non efl books I usually borrow from friends and buy loads when I go back to the UK. What has happened to the BC library? |

have you considered dowloading e-books from the internet? we use e-mule, a free software which allows you to share files. you can get microsoft reader free too, it's the most similar to a real book.
not nearly as good as turning pages, but one big benefit: costs you the price of a few minutes internet access for downloading! |
