Hey there,
I'm rather new at this, and don't even have any certificate of any kind. I'm going to graduate this december with a BS in Computer Science and a BA in German. I have been to Istanbul, however, and rather enjoyed the people and everything about it, and am looking for a short term (less than a year, most likely only 6 months or so) job that will pay enough for a apartment or some other accomidation. Teaching English isn't something I've ever particularly thought to do before, but stumbling upon this site has sparked my interest.

In this regard, I had some questions: Is it very hard to get a certificate, and do i even need one for a job as a teacher or tutor? And what kind of pay could I reasonably expect with these credentials? I'm more interested in meeting people, making contacts and learning some turkish, and maybe a discussion group or something of the sort is more the way to go. Does anyone have any answers/suggestions?

Thanks alot,
Phy

get the TEFL certificate. You can see some ads for some places here on Daves or check out TEFL.com At ET you would be paid about 14TL/hr as a new teacher. Et would not give a contract less than 6 mo, don't know about the other schools. For 6 mo accommodation, you would need to find something furnished or stay in the provided housing. Feel free to pm me for more specific questions.
