Corky, while your post was better written than your previous one (i.e. actually contained words). What are you specifically after? Not meaning to be rude but have you used the search engine on this forum or looked at the job information journal?
You'd probably get better replies posting on the general Asia forum than on a Taiwan forum.

Corky....ever been to the Phils? I have. Eight times. It ain't no picnic living there and you'd better have some real good savvy and connections to even start up.

Sure the Phils are nice to visit but after all of my experience I would never live there.

BTW, you will earn half of what you will earn in Taiwan, Japan or Korea where the jobs are plentiful and the information easy to come by.

Perhaps you have been to the Phils and you have based your decision on serious thought. Just plug into any search engine and you'll get some results but be warned, the Filipinos are a cagey bunch.

There simply is not a strong demand for foreign English teachers in the Philipines because the national language is English and the pay is reletivly low.
Good luck!

Rolling Eyes What's Tagalog, then Aristotle? Every single Filipino I've met in Taiwan has never spoken to another of their national's in English.
After doing a web search I found the national languages of the phils are Filipino which is a form of Tagalog and English.

all the Filipinos here that I've talked to speak English.

You wouldn't teach Filipinos, you'd be teaching all of the Japanese, Korean and Chinese EFL students that go to the Philippines to study English.

This is sort of off topic but what are the chances of dating Filipinos in Taiwan. Do most of them speak English or are most of the Filipinos in Taiwan uneducated laborers? I find Filipino women more attractive than Taiwanese girls so I was wondering what the Filipino dating scene in Taiwan is like.

JZer,

I have dated several filipina women in both P.I and the USA.
So from my humble experience I can say that in general the woman are very sweet ( of course there are psyco's in every ethnic group).

""are most of the Filipinos in Taiwan uneducated laborers?""

This statement was disturbing. It makes you sound shallow, very shallow.
Many filipinas that work overseas are doing lower paying jobs. However, many of them are also nurses and they make good money depending on the host country.

I really wonder how much social class or status means to you?
I would take a sweet woman with little skill and education but a pure heart and the drive and dedication to improve herself. If a person has the desire, it is not were they are at that counts in life but the direction they are going---Just food for thought.

But I dont see you having a problem dating, I just hope your a nice guy and not some "meany" that is not serious.

Blessings my freind
Wink

The vast majority of Philipine nationals working as laborers on Taiwan are better educated than their Taiwanese overlords.

Tagalog is a national language of the Philipines developed by the Philippine government shortly after they gained their independence.
It is a mixture of several of the indigenous island languages, Spanish and a bit of English.
The Philippines has the highest number of American dual nationals in all of Asia and perhaps the world.
Unlike Chinese dual nationals who get a foreign passport to hide their assets and can't speak English, a very large segment of the Philipine population is fluent in English.

Philipinos speak Tagalog to their friends but English is the instructional medium for (supposedly) all Filipinos for their 12 year pre-college stint. This means that many, if not most, Filipinos don't have a need to learn English. However, it also means that they think they're native speakers, which they aren't (sometimes, even after 12 years in school, your English will still be assy), which is why Filipinos are the bane of every EFL recruiter's existence.

From the Filipino English I've seen on the web, it seems like about 10 or 20% of them are more or less at native speaker level, the rest at a communicative level. Mix this in with the fact that their country has less money to throw around than Thailand and you end up with less opportunity to teach English there.

Hi,

I worked for the British Council in the Phils back in 2003 for 4 months and must disagree with an earlier post and say that it is a cracking place to work ... i often think back and recall those days of cheap living, good food, lovely filipinas etc

Having just finished another stint in the mainland Rolling Eyes and now off to Taiwan i must say that if there were more opps in the Phils (or better ones in Indonesia - another great place), i would be there like a shot but alas its very hard to find the jobs there hence why i stick it out in these parts of the world Sad

JZer's entire post was shallow -- not simply that one statement.
