My husband and I are looking into going to Japan, and were wondering what to do about our dog---we're not sure we would be able to find someone to leave her with if we went to Japan, so we're looking into taking her with us. She's about 10-12lbs., so she'd actually fit in Japanese-sized accomodations. But we've also seen that even if she's up on her shots there is a quarantine period and fees, and that many apartments won't take animals. Anyone with experience with this? How hard would it be to find a place to live with a dog? What about the apartments provided by the big teaching schools, would they allow a small dog? |

It would be the cruelest thing in the world to inflict Japan upon your dog. Leave it at home. |

The size of your dog is not an issue here. The issue is the simple fact that the vast majority of landlords/apartment managers will not allow dogs or cats in apartments, whether the owner is foreign or Japanese. Not "many"...most. Those big teaching schools still have to cater to the whims of the landlord, so they are not immune to this regulation. |

Hi,
I arrived in Japan 3 months ago (me, husband and doggie!!). There are certain veterinary practices that you must abide by, however we are so glad that we took our dog with us and would definately recommend it!!!
Please feel free to email me at [email protected] |

It's a lot of trouble- hassle of paper work, quarantine duration and costs, health care.
If you and dog can handle that, go for it.
Some JETs have brought cats into Japan. It's not too difficult. Just a long and expensive process. |
