Yeah thanks for that clarification about ILA's reputation Mr Pete - ILA do have one of the most successful Young Learners Programs going. The "Academy" also has a relentlessly aggressive marketing campaign and whether you like them or not, ILA's name is out there (kind of like Coca-cola)
The big mystery about ILA is this: if they are so professional, well-resourced with good salaries paid on time, why are there so many disgruntled ex-ILA teachers? Anyone who can provide the answers please do.
I agree that there are a lot of whingers in the Vietnamese EFL industry and they can become somewhat tiresome. But they do keep the schools honest and not resting on their reputations. As long as the whingeing is somewhat informative and therefore constructive, I think it can only be of benefit to teachers on this board. |

Most people I've talked to who have worked there say the atmosphere is unfriendly and very cliquey. Not a very positive, friendly work environment for this kind of city. I worked there briefly and found the atmosphere and people in supervising positions pretty unbearable. |

If you are over 24 you are considered "over the hill."
Young, fresh-faced early twenty-somethings from England are preferred.
Management encourages the teachers to hang out together, preferably, downtown.
A very sterile, unfriendly atmosphere.
One teacher was fired for riding a bicycle to work. It didn't fit the "rich' and squeeky clean image. |

Quotes like this smack of rumour! I find this very hard to believe. Now if this person walked into a classroom wearing see-thru cycling pants dripping with sweat, then maybe, but .... can you substantiate this story?
edited for typos. |
