1. It's populated with juniors--the next generation of narcotraficantes, corrupt politicians and maintainers of the very pernicious Mexican class system.

2. Many of the branches try to get profs on the cheap--hiring them on hours instead of full time.

I wouldn't be anywhere else!! But it's not the most stable or well paid, which was what I was referring to.

This is common practice at the state university where I teach, too. As a matter of fact, during the 10 years that I've been teaching at this institution, only part-time teachers on hourly wages have been hired for the EFL department. These aren't continuing or tenured-position contracts. It's somewhat similar to the concept of adjunct professors at universities in the USA, I think, except for the hourly-wage part maybe.

Adjunct faculty at US universities are either paid by hours or by the course, so it is the same exploitative model.

And I see that Cochabamba has joined the call to re-nationalize hydrocarbons.
