Anyone know of ways to make some money through jobs back home while your abroad teaching English? If I just made $US300/month, I'd be set actually.
I've thought of translating as I know German, Spanish & Russian really well. But I can't find out how to get started with that.
Any ideas/help would be appreciated. |

Make money.
hmmm ... difficult to define.
Most people go into it something like this: "I think I need a computer. The cheapest is $500, but if I get this one with the 35 gigatera processor for $5000 and the 64 gazillion color laserprinter for another $1000 I'll be able to make a little money doing xyz (desktop publishing, ecommerce, etc.) So we easily get ourselves into buying a computer we don't really need (but coincidentally is a damn good game machine) and find that we have to work 100-200 hours to break even from a purely economical point of view. Yes, there are those who say "I was going to spend $5,000 on a computer anyway. OK whatever.
Then there is the time you have to spend 1) educating yourself and 2) chasing dead ends. At the end of 4 years you look back and see that unless you've got some degree of popularity like dave you're working for less than $5 per hour.
You're better off donating blood or cells.
Yes, there are opportunities to make money online. I could give you pages and pages of links to different "affiliate" programs and whatnot. Most of it's overhyped bunk. But there's always the chance. Kinda like the gold miners of the 19th century.
I also see ads for online teaching but I wonder how things work out with these. I mean, what if they just say "We aren't paying you because someone complained" What will you do? Spam them? There's a big element of trust when you work with a person online and unfortunately I can't say I trust the average language learning organization.
I personally dabble on school time using the school computer, so I can say my time isn't exactly wasted. So far I've made something like 40 cents without spending any of my own money and only some of my free time. Well, at least this time around.
In any case, if I haven't completely discouraged you yet feel free to contact me by PM.

Do you think that it is a reputable job? I am a bit hesitant to send them a copy of my passport. Is this an unfounded fear? |

Your salary will depend on the vagaries and swings of the exchange rate. I wouldnt trust them, myself. |

A few years ago I worked for a company in California via the internet. They had a Japanese kids' language course based on cd roms and internet and I just logged in every few days to mark the kids' tests and answer their spoken recordings etc. I got about 375 usd a month for not a lot of work. They don't seem to be around anymore though. Maybe there are others like them. |
