I need some advice. I have been here for almost 4 years and have had a few different Eikaiwa and other related jobs. I left my most recent position last month because the company is going through some financial problems and we were having problems gettting our full salaries.

I finallly got my money and left the company and I have been unable to secure a new full time position that will renew my visa which will expire in about 6 weeks. I am not ready to leave Japan.

Can I get an extension on my Specialist in Hum visa? Should I tell them the truth- I cant find a job and I want to stay in Japan for a while longer? Should I ask for a 3 month tourist stamp?

Financilly I am doing ok........next week I am actually moving to a less expensive apartment to cut down on mv expenses.

I don't think immigration would have any reason to renew or give an extension on a work visa if you don't have a job in hand.

You'd best pound the pavement hard. If you can string together PT jobs to bring in enough money, immigration may grant you a work visa under a "self-sponsorship" status. There is no fixed amount you have to earn, so every immigration office will give you a different figure. As long as the PT jobs are legit companies/schools, not private lessons, you should be ok.

I dont think I have enough time to string together enough part time jobs.........I may just head down to immigration in the next few weeks and ask for a tourist stamp if I cannot sexure full time employment.

Maybe its time to take my money and run!

Try and get hired with 7act........sign up for every private company you can.......once you get to the 250,000 a month level, you can self sponsor.

I would say you have six weeks to do it.

Call up the ALT dispatch companies in your area......let them know you are there to fill in if a teacher bails.

go to every JUKU and english school in your area and ask about work.

I got a job within a week of having to leave, so I can understand your stress.

If you can, move to a friends house and try and get a job from that location. If it doesnt work, leave the country.......go to Korea.....come back for a 'visit' and then find a job.

Thanks for all your advice. I still have not found sponsorship and I am wondering when I should go down to immigration to request a change in my visa status to tourist.
