Doesn't that make it a little hard on the presenter to work with a group of people who are mad about having to be there
It is no different than teaching students who do not want to be there.

So it is hard then. I don't mind putting students through unpleasantness but I don't like doing it to my colleagues...

I don't do well with games, nor do I like them much for lessons, but I can find ways to make a warmer last an hour. But I did get some really good activities from workshops. I think the best workshop I ever went to was about usuing no (or few) materials and no (or little) planning. 2 years later and I'm still using some of those...

Interesting dmb, thanks. And here I thought I was just being lazy.

I think that's the downside to this approach-- that students might also think the teacher is being lazy if s/he doesn't come with lots of handouts and blanks to fill it and bits of cut-up paper. When I worked in dershane, and students' feelings about the teacher being lazy were important, I sometimes looked over my fake 'lesson plan' when each new part of the lesson began...

One of the keys to using a dogme style approach is taking notes in the lesson. Obviously the students benefit as you can take notes on any grammatical areas or vocab that is lacking or causing problems and give delayed feedback or give a re-presentation of the problem. At the same time you can collect the mistakes for a grammar auction or some other GLALL. The students also realise that you are actually listening to them and helping them out so they have confidence in you. I would not advocate it as a way to teach. But like other approaches it has something to offer. I am sure at some point all of us have had great lessons that were just spur of the moment and well deviated from the original lesson plan. It is one of the things I like about teaching- the unexpected

sorry but i think some teachers deserve to be exploited by the school owners

How lucky for them that there are so many school owners in Turkey to exploit them.

At the private uni I worked at there were some fantastically qualified Turkish and foreign teachers. MAs from Bosphorous, Warwick, Aston, Southampton, Bilkent etc.-all in ELT/Applied Linguistics/TESOL. Didn`t stop them from getting exploited.

I do understand what you mean if you are talking about the army of backpackers but then they are not teachers and so are unlikely to improve their often non existent qualifications.
