I just got a msg from my predecessor that said I'm inheriting a 2LDK apt and will only have to pay 100 bucks (US or CAN dollars I have yet to find out) a month for it! YAY me!
Also, I'm headed to Kashima-shi in Saga-ken, mudsliding here i come!
I just thought that this forum hardly ever has good news...so i'm sharing a bit of my happiness |

Cheryl,
Thanks for the good news & enthusiasm. You're right--there's sometimes not much positivity (is that a word? sure it is...) on this forum. Here's my good news:
I've been in Japan for about three and a half weeks now, and I love it. The other teachers and staff at my school have just about bent over backwards to help me get settled in--going to the grocery store/bank with me to help me find my way around, giving me driving tours of the area (Nakajo, in Niigata ken), taking me to community events (a ceramics class, ikebana, etc.), helping me with my Japanese, which sometimes means telling me the exact phrase to say just moments before I need to say it, and, of course, checking to make sure that my classes are going well. Aaaaaaah. I cannot wait until I have settled in a bit more and gotten more of a grasp of the language, so that I can help future new-comers. |

Denise,
Wow your experience sounds wonderful. I hope mine will be as positive as your is. What program are you with? Are you melting? hehe I keep hearing about the Japanese humidity.
I sometimes get lost in the "flames" of Dave's ESL cafe...kinda gets annoying sometimes. I just wanted to start a thread where ppl could share some happy stories! Oh gosh, I think some birds just began singing and butterflies are flluttering over my head!

Well done Shezza ... Otsukaresama ! That's really wonderful that you're so positive... For sure you'll have a great time with all those birds and butterflies ...
I couldn't resist raining on your parade just a weeny bit. Cheap rents like that aren't unheard of in rural areas ... It's usually to provide some form of consolation for people living in places which are high on the "Oh my God! I'm living in the middle of nowhere" factor.

Nah, no raining today!! Actually, I wouldn't mind some rain to break this awful heat wave that's passing through.
I'm happy about the rent because it's cheaper than any rent i'd get living here in Canada (minus living at home with the parents), and I wanted to live in a rural-ish area of Japan. I like small cities since i feel i can get to know people better out of the hussle and bustle of a big city. So, as you can see, I'm happy because I've gotten exactly what I wanted with sugar on the top.
Cheryl
p.s. I also have a 2LDK apt. and my successor said the teachers and students were great soooo no worries about the rain...I'm well equiped with a hooded rain coat. |
