Hi everyone! I have completed a Master's in TESOL and I have been studying Spanish. It is my goal to become more proficient in Spanish, so I would like to focus on teaching EFL in Latin America, but I would like to find a job at a university or in a professional setting (where you need more than a quick certification degree and I can put my MA to good use). I have read somewhere that most of the jobs in Latin America do not get advertised until about September. Can someone tell me if that is true? Thanks very much |

it depends on the country. generally speaking, south of the equator, september is already well into the spring semester of the school year... for example, in argentina, the school year generally starts sometime in march, finals in july, few weeks for winter break, and spring semester starts sometime in august... |

Check the websites of universities in the countries which interest you. |

And then apply to them all, whether theyre advertising or not, as soon as you decide you're interested. It's impossible to know when openings will come up on this continent, so get your resume in, then follow up.
The turnover of native English teachers, even in good universities but especially in lower quality institutes, is alarming. You never know when a very sudden need may come up, so get in position to fill it.
Regards,
Justin |

I'm aware that the seasons and school year are different south of the equator, but I was not sure about how or when to apply. Also, if I knew the names of some universities, I would apply to them! I am most interested in Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay. I would go to just about any place, however. Can anyone recommend a site or university? |

i recommend google. try something like "universidades en america latina", and you'll come up with things like http://www.rau.edu.uy/universidad/univ.htm it's not exhaustive, but looks like a good place to start... there are other promising listings on google as well... |
