|
|
I've run across similar requirements with several prospective employers: they ask for a "Letter of non-criminal record" (or something similar).
I have a misdemeanor (trespassing) on my record. I researched and I won't be able to have it expunged until 2011.
Has anyone had any experience with these letters? Does it have to be from the police, or can I get some kind of other letters (of recommendation or good conduct) that will fulfill the requirement? Or could I use something from the Mexican authorities once I am in Mexico perhaps?
I am eligible for private jobs here in the US, state teaching certificates, federal jobs, etc. I researched, and the only job I am ineligible for as a result is that of a policeman.
Thanks for any illumination that you can provide. |

Those letters are not that common a requirement here in Mexico.
I can tell you what I did when I had to get (twice) a Cultural Exchange visa for Ecuador. The first time I went to the police in Puerto Angel, Oaxaca, where I was living. They wrote up a document indicating that they had made a thorough search of their records and found no mention of me. The second time I went to the city hall in the village where I live in Morelos and they gave me a letter of good conduct which indicated how much I had contributed positively to the community. Both were accepted.
Ask the place where you have applied if you can submit a letter from your local police in the US. |

You only need a print out of the basic criminal record from one state. You dont need the whole FBI thing that is required to work as a teacher in the states. I think they just want to know that you arent a hard criminal or a child molester.
If your "misdemeanor" happened in a different state other than where you are currently, it will probably not show up on the police report from your state.
By the way, is one of the places you are applying to Global HRS? If it is, PM me. |
