Hi
Does anybody have any info on this school?
I'm also abit confused about the wording on the contract
it says under Monthly Salary: Dhs 5000 UAE
and underneath this, is a table entitled "Other Benefits"
Transportation: AED 500
Utilities: AED 200
Experience: AED 500
Overtime: AED 500
Allowances: AED 300
Base salary: AED 3000

Does this mean what it says, that these are indeed benefits,
or (this is what I'm thinking),
are these "benefits" subtracted off the AED 5000 Monthly salary
to amount to Base Salary: AED 3000 ???
Thanks for any interpretations

The total monthly income will be the 5000, which is the 3000 base plus the listed allowances/benefits of 2000. When it comes to calculating any gratuity, the base salary is used.

BTW, if you have a degree and experience, this is a VERY low salary.

Very low indeed! I don't know anything about the school though I've seen it from the road. It's pretty small, I suspect it has no connection whatever with America, and frankly I wouldn't go near it for double that salary.

Sorry if you were looking forward to it!

I have to agree with everyone: that is the lowest salary I have heard of so far. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Sorry.

maybe i should have mentioned that they pay for accomodation (a shared villa, each room with its own bathroom)
i have a BA and minimal experience.
so is it still terribly meagre?

Yes, it is. What do they mean by "transportation allowance"? If you don't actually have to use all of it for getting to work, and if the utilities allowance actually covers the bills, and if the people you're sharing with are good company, then you might just make a go of it. How long's the contract? It might be OK for a year and might give you a chance to find something better. But unless you're desperate, I'd hold out for something better right now.

I have never heard of any employer offering teachers shared accomodations before! Like I said earlier: (IMHO) STAY AWAY!

Shared accommodation is not unusual with entry-level jobs, but I've been thinking more about those "allowances". Are they paid automatically with your salary or do you have to provide receipts? Is the overtime guaranteed or only when they need you? If you can't make anything off the transportation and utilities allowances and you can't depend on the overtime, you'll really be struggling.

If you really want to advise the poor guy, just tell him the salary that he was given is REALLY LOW & he should be looking elsewhere. UAE: 5000/Month? Come on! GIVE ME A BREAK!

If he finishes one year contract, his next employer will look at him down since he accepted the first offer. In the worse case scenario, he will be offered slightly better than 5000/Month. Will this still be a good salary? Nope!

With your BA and a year or two experience, you will be making at least Am $ 2000/Month in North East Asia where life is better since you are a single dude!

Just helping again!

Yes Franj,

Even for a new teacher, this is a terrible package. The Emirates is not a cheap place to live. If this is your only offer and you are desperate... maybe... but if you have other options or time, I would keep looking.

What a relief! Let's hope you don't need a backup anyway - Japan's probably the best bet.

Yes, you can do much better than that in Japan. Many people are able to save close to $1,000 US/month on a standard starting salary and more when you start teaching privates.
