Hi everyone!
I've just got accepted for a job via Yakup -International, a recruitment agency in China.
Does anyone know about them. Or does anyone know a good way to find out?
Thanks |

I have no personal axe to grind. In my couple of years, I would say that they are probably the second worst outfit in China (ACCIF being the top loser) Lucky for all who do their research, Yakup seems to keep the same name. I don't know how far back you can search. I would be interested in the wording of your contract.
Is your contract with them, or with a specific school? They can send you anywhere, despite promises ( they like to promise people Beijing, then send you elsewhere)
Who pays you...the school or Yakup?
Who is responsible for getting you your neccessary papers (unless you like to come to China illegaly) Are they sending you the invitation letter needed to work here legally? How many former teachers have they helped you contact? Have you been able to personally contact the school you will teach at? |

Yakup International.
The owner is an Alum from the London School of Economics, so I put a lot of trust in him and his wife. They promised many wonderful things, internet in your flat, a nice flat with 24 hour running hot water, a new bicycle, the China daily, Western style food...etc. Be sure, they are empty promises, quite disappointing if you ask me.
In actuality, they get a huge sum of money for each teacher they send to their partner schools. And once they get that money they will cut ties with you immediately. I wouldn't trust them with a ten foot pole...I say this as objectively as I can.
If you want to know more about them, send me a PM and I'll give you all the details of my experience.

Thanks a lot for all this info. That's just about what I thought. I'll just keep searching for another job.
I'm completely new on this forum. I'd love to send you a PM but I have no idea how. Can you help?
Thanks. |

Yakup was discussed here within the past twelve months. Most posts were negative.
Note that if a school does not know how to angle for an expat teacher they won't know how to go about making you a legal resident and employee; the agent NEVER assumes THIS RESPONSABILITY either although they routinely charge somewhere in the tens of thousands of RMB.
If the school is unhappy with you (and new schools are likely to find a problematic issue with you) they will simply shunt you aside, and you can't go back to Yakup for any salary or airfare issue! |
