Hi,
I'm from the US and currently teaching privately to children in Hong Kong and like it very much, but I would like to try something new such as Japan, China, or Korea.
I would like to teach kids and be in a place where there are a lot of activities and recreation. To me, enjoying the area and people is more important than the pay.
I just have an AA so I know I will have to finish my 4 year degree and maybe take a TEFOL course.
Where do I start?
Can anyone give me suggestions on credible and competitively priced online degrees or TEFOL courses?
What places in Asia did you really enjoy working?
Did you like Korea and/or Japan
Any suggestions??? |

There is a good CELTA course offered in Bangkok. You may send a PM to struelle for details, as he has taken it. The training centre is called ECC.
Here is their website:

Hello,
Since you've posted in the Japan section, that's about all I can comment on as I haven't taught English in the other Asian countries you mentioned.
I wouldn't worry much about a TEFL course if applying in Japan -- it doesn't hold much water here.
Where to start? Read the stickies, lurk around a bit -- get a feel for the community and what's been discussed recently... Do a search for topics you have questions about, and if you can't find what you're after, post it up and some of the folks will take a whack at it...
Good luck!

Yes, read all of the stickies at the top of the Japan forum. Also take a look at the FAQs here and on www.eltnews.com (teaching guide link).
Sounds like you would be eligible for only entry level work, which means conversation schools or JET programme. Know what you are getting into. |
