The law says that either a BA or teaching certificate is OK.
At present the department of labor is saying that you need both. I personally believe that they will back down on this issue, but could be very wrong here.
The above are requirements for the work permit, which up until very recently only a very small proportion of teachers have had.
There are a lot of teachers teaching privately here and I don't see the work permit issue hitting them for a long time to come. It is only just staring to hit schools at the moment. It will probably hit government owned schools last or maybe never at all.
If I were you I would come here, and if the lack of teaching certification did become an issue I would switch to teach for a government owned school or teach privately.
As you don't have a teaching qualification it will be very difficult for you to arrange a job before you arrive so I suggest just turning up and beating the streets. It is still easy to find work.
Do recommend turning up with your police record if this is possible. |

It tends to be that if you teach a private well, then the parents (usually privates are high school age Koreans and Japanese or housewives) will refer you to their friends.
As Spycatcher Reincarnated (long user name!) says, being here is the issue for such jobs. I know teachers from both the Korean and the Japanese schools who have picked up work via their schools which has spread to enough work to leave the school and teach exclusively privately. One has to be aware of long (unpaid) holiday breaks with these jobs, much like contract work anywhere - downtime=no payment. |
