Anyone know a good source of maids/cleaners? My last one quit after one day as she said my house's "negative feng shui" was making her ill, while the previous one said it was too much work (yeah right, 2 people living in a small 2-storey house).

I've asked around the neighbours but no-one seems to want to come in & clean just 3 mornings a week. Anyone got any contacts?

I am sure you are aware of this, but you should get a couple of references atlteast.

Whether just coming into clean, three times per week, or for more hours, there are so many stories of thievery it's unbelievable. Small things, to cameras, to even stealing expensive jewelry.

No local person is allowed in my apartment unless I am present, with them.

Even firefighter steal from the home to put fires out at.... Crying or Very sad

Wow!

Whilst I understand that with maids, security is an issue, I have had things stolen myself, surely such a blanket attitude invites the challenge for a poverty-stricken local to rob you?

Fact is, that with all domestic staff, unfortunately, one has to keep all valuables locked away, as if one were staying in an hotel.

To say that no local person is allowed in my house would be to defeat the whole object of living in another country. Sorry, but we earn in ten hours what the nation earns on average per year - there is absolutely no excuse for such stereotyping!

mr.pete: NO, I did not say the above in bold. I didn't say that no local is allowed in my apartment.

I said "unless I am present." If a plumber, or cable person, or whom ever is in my apartment, I now will be in the room, or standing right out side the door.

The first year I was hear, I didn't care. After my Sony CD player valued at $120 was ruined, and other things stolen, I changed my trusting policy.

I consider myself luckier than many others, however.

I have also caught the security guy in my room snooping around, by walking in on him.

If someone is in my apartment, I must be present.

Hmmmm. 80+ million people and you tar them all with one brush. Wonder what they think of you?

Over-generalizing is dangerous. I am not stereotyping. After numerous problems, it's time for me to be present when people are in my room.

"Screw me 3 times, your fault. Screw me a 4th time, my fault." Laughing

It's a precaution some choose to take.

Would you leave your keys in your car running back in your home country in a busy parking lot while you go grocery shopping?

I don't think so.
