What do I need to take with me to apply for a Z Visa? Do I need a copy of my degree? What else? What will they ask me for??

Sorry, but is this a silly question? I mean: you canNOT apply for a work visa on your own unless you have a sponsor who wants to hire you in China, in which case they will tell you what you need to take to the Chinese embassy/consulate!
Normally it is the contract between you and your employer with a seal from the PSB, plus a medical exam stating that you are HIV-free! Whether you have any qualification is up to the school to verify!

Yes, I have a letter of invitation from my employer. I just want to make sure I have everything with me. Unless someone has actually been to the embassy for a Visa, I don't think they'd know (even though they should) so I thought I'd ask here.

I have done my homework guys, if I fly into Shanghai, the cat is qarintined in my hotel room or place of residence because at the point of entry in Shanghi does not have facilities to quarintine them. The cat is never allowed outside no matter where he is; totally an inside kitty. The only have facilites for holding dogs. All he needs is his travel certificate. Smile

Plus kitties (and small dogs) are allow to ride in the plane under your seat as carry on bagage. This kitty has travelled before. He also has kitty sleeping medicine for the plain ride should he become too nervous. He is a very quite cat. I am flying from Shangai to Kunming where he and I will be living for the next 10 months.

"Quarantined", Julia Girl, "quarantined", from French 'quarantaine", that is "some 40 days", but obviously both in Britain and China, this term is inaccurate (6 months!).
Hope your fur ball will survive the flight, the subsequent treatment at Shanghai Airport, and the "quarintine".
LOve cats (they usually are so terribly daft but almost always very cute!).

Did you not read my posting? THEY CAN NOT QUARANTINE IF THEY DO NOT HAVE FACILITIES TO DO SO DESPITE THE DAMN LAW!!! Geez, you can spell, but can you read? Shanghai is the ONLY port of entry that CAN NOT QARANTINE CATS. Just dogs (unfair for all you puppie lovers out there), they DO NOT HAVE facilites to hold cats. You sign a paper and the cat is quarantined in your hotel room or what not. Did you not read my previous post? Don't just correct my spelling errors, READ the post. My cat will be in quarantine for 10 months (my entire stay in Kunming) as he has never been outside (unless he is in his carrying bag) in his entire life. That is just fine with me. Persians have no business outside. They have flat faces and long hair which assist them in getting dirty too quickly. My cat will rest on my balcony, but if I open the front door to the apartment, he runs in the other direction. Unless it is a food delivery, then he sticks around........Plus my cat has all his traveling papers (most ppl just put their animals on a plane w/o their animal passports or health certificates. Why else would I be landing and spending 10 days in Shanghai??? My cat is travelling under the seat in front of me. At night when other passagers are asleep I take him out and wrap him in a blanket and hold him for a bit, then let in into the wash room to pee and take him back to him cage and feel him and give him some catnip. He has flown for at least 8 hours before. 5 hours before that. Not to mention he has travelled by car from LA to Toronto, Canada. He is very well travelled.
REMEMBER CAT PPL, FLY INTO CHINA VIA SHANGHAI, NO QUARANTINE FOR KITTIES THERE BECAUSE THERE ARE NO FACILITIES!!! IT IS ON YOUR HONOR THAT YOU WILL QUARANTINE YOUR CAT YOURSELF. ANY NEVER LET YOUR CATS OUTSIDE OR YOU WILL BE EATING "LITTLE TIGER SOUP" before you even realize your kitty is gone.

JuliaGirl, how do you plan to travel to Kunming? When I was researching bringing my cat to China (I have since decided to leave him with a friend), I was informed that it was against the rules to bring the cat on a train. Maybe someone who is there can confirm this? Also, random visits to your residence are sometimes imposed to enforce the quarantine.

Sounds like you are accustomed to travelling with your cat, so it may turn out well. I'd be interested to hear how it goes for you. Good luck!

I will by flying into Kunming from Shanghai. I've decided I don't really like the trains in China (too crammed) and it is only 1600 RMB to fly from Shanghai to Kunming. 2100 for first class.
